SPOTLIGHT #2/15
The Advanced Reinforcement Manufacturing
Facility commenced cage manufacture in May
2024 with the aim of improving productivity for Unit
2 Heat Sink at Hinkley Point C. The facility aimed at
improving reinforcement output, developing
greater programme certainty, improving quality
assurance and an overall cost and schedule
benefit. To achieve this, ARMF developed a
manufacturing process to prefabricate 120-150t of
reinforcement a week which aimed to provide an
overall 6 month reduction in the Heat Sink
programme. The facility has the capability to
manufacture cages that weigh up to 28.5t,
consisting of single, double or even quadruple
mesh cages.
Since mobilisation, 241 cages have been manufactured
equating to approximately 2933t of reinforcement. The
facility now manufactures cages for up to 11 buildings at
HPC and are further developing the range of product for
manufacture. Alongside the cage manufacture,
embedment plates, recostal stop ends, beams and slabs
have begun manufacture which further aids the benefit
to BYLOR & HPC. The team have worked hard to develop
the process, resolving various Engineering challenges to
achieve a 7.5mm bar positional tolerance whilst ensuring
the site programme demands were achieved, with the
team most recently achieving their Quarter 1 target of
100 cages in 2025.
